On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, a female staff member reported to the Harvard University Police Department that she was the victim of an assault and battery at approximately 10:15 PM. The victim stated that while walking on Grant Street near DeWolfe Street, she was approached by an unknown male from behind who placed his arms over her shoulders. The male than looped a thin rope over her head. The victim immediately crouched down, turned, and pushed the offender away. The victim then fled down Grant Street. While fleeing the victim observed the offender stagger down the walkway that leads behind 5 Cowperthwaite Street. The victim was not injured in the assault.

On Saturday, October 3, 2009, a male faculty member reported to the Cambridge Police Department that he was the victim of an armed robbery at approximately 10:15 PM. The victim stated that while walking on Eustis Street near Oxford Street, he was approached by an unknown male that asked him what time it was. At that point the unknown male displayed a handgun and demanded the faculty member's wallet. The vicitm handed over the wallet and the offender fled down Oxford Street. The victim was not injured in the robbery.

The victim was unable to provide a detailed description of the suspect.

Because this incident did not occur on Harvard University property, it is being investigated by the Cambridge Police Department. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Cambridge Police Department, Criminal Investigation Division at 617-349-3370.
